Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been included in the team’s 16-member Asia Cup 2025 squad. He picked up a hamstring injury in Sri Lanka’s last T20I series against Bangladesh and was not included for the team’s white-ball series against Zimbabwe.

He was left out of the Zimbabwe T20I series, but he is hopeful to return fit for the Asia Cup 2025. The Sri Lankan spinner replaces Dushan Hemantha from the squad that was named for the Zimbabwe series.

The Sri Lankan squad announced for the Asia Cup 2025 has four major changes from the squad that lost to Bangladesh in their previous T20I series at home. Avishka Fernando, Dinesh Chandimal, Jeffrey Vandersay and Eshan Malinga are the players left out, with Nuwanidu Fernando and Kamil Mishara coming into the squad, along with fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera.

Angelo Matthews Ignored From Asia Cup 2025 Squad

Chamika Karunaratne and Dasun Shanaka are the two all-rounders picked in the squad. There is no place for veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews, who retired from Test cricket earlier this year but has remained open to playing white-ball cricket.

Dunith Wellalage will be the spinning partner of Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. Sri Lanka also have a fourth spinning option in the form of all-rounder Kamindu Mendis. The Lankans have announced a good pace attack with Dushmantha Chameera, Binura Fernando, Nuwan Thushara, Matheesha Pathirana. The attack has a lot of depth and variety to play in UAE conditions.
