IND vs ENG: Joe Wilson Vows Silence Ahead of Lord’s Test After Shubman Gill's Jibe

BBC journalist Joe Wilson, who was cheekily called out by Shubman Gill after India’s historic win at Edgbaston, has said he won’t be giving the Indian captain any more motivation. Wilson had asked Gill before the match about India’s winless Test record at Edgbaston. Gill had answered politely then, but after leading India to a win by a record-margin, he did not forget the question.

"I can’t see my favourite journalist. Where is he? I wanted to see him," Gill said as quoted after India’s win at Edgbaston.

India’s 336-run win was their first-ever at Edgbaston and came on the back of a historic performance from Shubman Gill. The skipper smashed 269 in the first innings and followed it up with 161 in the second, breaking multiple records in the process. He registered most runs scored by an Indian in a Test match and most by an Indian captain in a single innings.

BBC Journalist Regrets Motivating Shubman Gill After Edgbaston Heroics

Speaking to RevSportz, Wilson admitted his question might have inspired Gill.

"I won't say anything that motivates him. I think he's a real gentleman. He answers every question with dignity and intelligence. He's leading his team pretty well in all departments, especially in the media,” Wilson said as quoted to RevSportz.

He also agreed that stats from the past can sometimes be misleading.

"What the captain said was very sensible. If you look back at the 1970s and even the 1980s, there was a very different feel about the Indian Test team here. When they would come aboard and would never really have the expectation to win. Now they do have that. Maybe that was the statistics playing around with his or maybe that was a motivation because we've almost lost count of the records that Shubman himself broke. How to get Shubman out is now the number one question for the England coaches," he added.

Jofra Archer Replaces Josh Tongue in England's XI for Lord’s Test

Ahead of the third Test at Lord’s, England have announced their playing XI. The hosts have made just one change to the side that lost in Edgbaston. Fast-bowler Jofra Archer has been included in the team, replacing Josh Tongue.

This will be Archer’s first Test match since February 2021. The right-arm pacer has battled multiple injuries over the last few years. England will hope that his pace and experience wilmake a difference on a pitch that was expected to assist fast-bowlers.

England playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Shoaib Bashir
