Rahul Dravid talks about home advantage

The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines with his record-breaking century for the Rajasthan Royals against the Gujarat Titans, prompting their mentor, Rahul Dravid, to rise from his wheelchair and give him a standing ovation, momentarily forgetting about his injury.

Cricket fans witnessed two rare events yesterday: first, a 14-year-old sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, proving that age is just a number; and second, a lively Rahul Dravid, a figure we usually see only in advertisements, coming to life on the cricket field. Vaibhav's remarkable century meant everything to Dravid, who, despite his injury, beamed with joy as he applauded the young talent.

Rahul Dravid, who was fit at the start of the IPL season, sustained a leg injury during a charity match, which has left him in a wheelchair for the past one months. He graced the ground with his presence in that wheelchair.

In an interview with Sports Today, the Rajasthan Royals team manager revealed that Dravid had specifically wanted Vaibhav on the team. After the century, he hugged Vaibhav tightly, wished him the best of luck, and expressed his pride.

"It's a great pleasure for a great coach because he picked up Vaibhav in the auction and has shown great belief in him during practice sessions. Seeing the results, Rahul Dravid is also a human being—he is very happy and feels we have some serious talent to develop for the country. We need many more players like him," Bhinder told Sports Today.

Record Day out for Vaibhav

Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued to impress against the Gujarat Titans, first breaking the record for the fastest fifty of the season, then achieving the record for the fastest hundred scored by an Indian batter in just 35 balls. He equaled the record for the most sixes in a century by hitting 11 sixes and obtained 93% of his runs from boundaries, which is also a new record. His performance helped the Rajasthan Royals achieve the fastest 200-plus runs chase in a T20 match.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has now been selected to represent India in the U19 tour to England, alongside CSK’s 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre.
