India ODI skipper Rohit Sharma was seen joking about retirement after the team’s Champions Trophy 2025 triumph. He said this in a behind-the-scenes video shared by Rishabh Pant on India’s 79th Independence Day.

The short clip was part of an exclusive video recorded by Pant inside the Indian dressing room, giving fans a rare glimpse of the players’ emotions moments after lifting the Champions Trophy in Dubai.

India won the Champions Trophy 2025 title by defeating New Zealand in the final. Chasing 252 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Men in Blue crossed the line in 49th over to secure a four-wicket win. It was India’s first Champions Trophy title since 2013 with Rohit Sharma leading the side to glory.

Rohit Sharma's Teases 'Retirement' Talk as Rishabh Pant Drops Unseen Champions Trophy Celebration Clip

Rishabh Pant, who had his phone camera rolling in the jubilant dressing room, asked Rohit,

"Bhaiya, ye stump leke kahaan jaa rahe ho" (Brother, where are you taking the stump?).

Rohit, holding the souvenir stump tightly, gave a witty reply that grabbed all the attention.

"Kya? Retirement le lun? Har baar jeetenge to har baar thodi retirement leta rahunga?" (What? Should I retire? I am not going to retire every time we win a title).

Pant, laughing in the background, responded warmly,

"I didn’t say it brother. We want you to play."

The video, shared on social media on August 15, captured unfiltered joy. Indian players were seen cheering, hugging, and celebrating after winning another ICC title in a short span of time following the T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit Sharma's ODI Future Under Spotlight

Rohit has already retired from Tests and T20Is, leaving 50-over cricket as the only format where he still features. He has not played an ODI since the Champions Trophy 2025 final and with no series lined up till October, doubts remain on his readiness to play the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might encourage both Rohit and Virat Kohli to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy later this year. With the next ODI World Cup scheduled in 2027, there is uncertainty around whether the senior duo will still be part of India’s long-term plans.
