It is operated by the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). The stadium has played host to several international bilateral series, World Cup matches, and is the home ground for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

The stadium has a capacity of around 30,000 and features two ends named Van Vihar Colony End and Garh Ganesh Temple End. Equipped with floodlights, it supports day-night games and creates a vibrant atmosphere during high-stakes matches.

The surface at the SMS Stadium is known for its dry and hard nature, offering good bounce and pace. While fast bowlers get some early seam movement, the surface is known to be a batting paradise with a lightning-fast outfield in limited-overs matches.
