“Would Love to Play in the Future” - Harry Brook Eyes IPL Comeback After Suspension

England batter Harry Brook has expressed his desire to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the near future, calling it the "best franchise tournament in the world." Brook said while his current focus remains on national duties, he still holds ambitions of returning to the IPL once circumstances allow.

Earlier this year, Brook pulled out of the tournament to prioritise his national duties, just days before the start of the season, as he was later announced as England’s white-ball captain after Jos Buttler’s resignation. He was set to play for Delhi Capitals (DC), who had signed him for INR 6.25 crore at the auction.

Brook was handed a two-year ban. As per a new rule, if any player backs down from his IPL commitment after the auction, he will be banned for two years from participating in the competition. As a result, the England star will be ineligible for IPL 2026 and 2027.

Harry Brook Hopes for IPL Return Despite Ban

Despite the ban, the 26-year-old has not shut the door on the IPL. Speaking at an event, Harry Brook reflected on the decision to pull out of IPL and reiterated how much he values the tournament.

"It was an incredibly difficult decision. The IPL is an amazing tournament. It’s tough cricket, with the best players in the world. The crowds and atmosphere are amazing. It is the best franchise tournament in the world. I would love to play the IPL in the future, but for the time being, the focus is on England duties," Brook said as quoted in a media interaction organised by Sony Sports Network.

Harry Brook Weighs In on What to Expect from Edgbaston Pitch

For now, his attention is back on red-ball cricket. Brook is currently featuring in the five-match Test series against India. He scored 99 in the first innings of the opening Test at Headingley before getting out for a duck in the second. England went on to win that match and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

With the second Test set to begin on July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, Brook will be key again. He also shared his thoughts on the pitch at the venue.

"Historically, the Edgbaston pitch can be flatter. There is probably more in it for spinners. Otherwise, it is generally a typical English pitch. If there is any spin – and I’m completely guessing here – it will probably be late on days three, four and five," Brook stated.
